An old favorite of our dock at Rice Lake in Michigan
christine: Rice Lake is a small lake not terribly far from the Great Lake Superior. There my parents own a summer cottage, where I spent my childhood summers there splashing in the lake with friends, fishing for walleye with Dad, picking wild blueberries with Mom, and catching spectacular sunsets like this one. It remains to be one of my favorite spots in the world.
I had to fly home to Michigan due to a death in the family, and the morning after the funeral I was awoken to the traumatic events of September 11, 2001. I ended up being grounded in Michigan for a week longer than I had anticipated before catching a flight back to Vancouver.
This photo was taken a matter of days after the nightmare, and is particularly special to me because although I was afraid of what was to come and if I would make it back to my home in Vancouver, I was able to feel comfort in the stillness and familiarity of Rice Lake at dusk.
